How much will I be charged to walk through Salik's gate?

You will be charged 5 AED when you pass through each salik (toll gate). You will be billed at the end of your rental period. The Salik amount can be deducted from your deposit or you can pay it separately.

What type of vehicle insurance do I have as standard?

According to the RTA, all rental cars in the UAE come with comprehensive insurance (also known as basic insurance). This means that, by default, you are covered in case of accidental damage, as long as it is not your fault. A police report must be obtained at the time of the accident. Your rental amount includes basic coverage.

Most car rental companies offer CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) for an additional cost. This also covers you for any damage caused by your own fault. However, a valid police report is still required for coverage.

When will I get my deposit back?

The deposit for car rentals between AED 1,000 and AED 10,000 is collected at the start of the rental. It is released a maximum of 30 days after the return of the car. It can be returned to you by bank transfer, cash deposit into your bank account, or check. Security hold through credit card pre-authorization is better because the bank automatically releases it on the same credit card within 30 days.

What is mileage? What happens if I get over it?

All rental cars have a standard mileage limit based on your rental period. But some companies also offer unlimited mileage. Custom mileage packages may be available for an additional cost.

To calculate your mileage, the car rental agreement mentions the km on the car's odometer at the beginning of your rental.

If you exceed the allowed km, additional charges apply. For this car, AED 5/km above the included mileage limit is charged.

What is the minimum age to rent a car in the United Arab Emirates?

The legal age to rent a vehicle (car, van, van, SUV or any other) in the UAE is 21 years old according to the RTA rules. However, this largely depends on the insurance that the car rental company has issued for the car. The minimum age can be 23 years and even 25 years, in some cases.
